Spanish Cinema. A Visual Journey
From October 8 to 31, the School of Design and Arts, DLSU-College of Saint Benilde, presents the exhibit Cine Español. A visual journey through the history of Spanish Cinema. A history marked by films, concretizing social realities, evolving side-by-side the history of Spain itself since 1896 up until the present. A visual reflection composed of 80 photographs and 20 posters.

The main goal of the exhibit is to answer questions on and provoke an emotive and reflexive circumspection toward Spanish filmmaking. The cameras have witnessed diverse changes in the trajectory of modern-day Spanish society caught between Old Europe and the traditions of Hispanic America. In some way, we are what we see and remember, but neither must we forget that through glances and stares, we likewise create one another.

EKSENA: Cineastas Filipinos. Mga Sineastang Filipino. Retratos fotograficos de / Mga Litrato ni Oscar F. Orengo
From October 7 to 31, the Cultural Center of the Philippines presents the photographic exhibit Eksena. Mga Sineastang Filipino.

Commissioned by Instituto Cervantes de Manila , the exhibit displays the portraits of 44 of the best Filipino directors, taken by the Spanish photographer Óscar F. Orengo. Through cinema and photography, a bridge is made between Spanish and Philippine cultures.

This exhibition came about as the logical result of project carried out by the Spanish photographer Oscar F Orengo. Orengo specializes in portraiture wherein he lends his subjects a definitive air of placement. His subjects are usually framed against a slice of their life, one that resonates with their person.

For this project, Orengo worked with 44 Filipino directors, each recognized in their fields and specific genre of cinema. Each one is renown for their distinct brand of filmmaking. By asking each filmmaker to choose their particular backdrop for their portrait, Orengo engaged each to create the story of their own portraits; thus, revealing (or hiding), how they wanted to project themselves to their public. In this exhibition, our gazes go past the film, and are directed at those who shape and control the images of our filmic experiences. With Eksena, the camera has turned the other way.
